Ahoy Sailors, get hyped because this is the big one!! No semester at UQ is complete without hitting Moreton island, so get ready for probably the best long weekend of your life!! It is an awesome weekend of camping, sailing, swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and partying!
So, The details!
This trip is for ALL sailing experience levels! We will be taking turns sailing off the beach, and every boat comes with an experienced skipper!
Catch the short ferry across Moreton Bay to the calm and secluded paradise that is the Wrecks at Moreton. Sail and explore the island on your own terms, surf and ride the nearby sand dunes, dive the wrecks and don’t forget to join the rest of the crew for a sunset beach party!
We will be setting sail to Moreton Island over the Labour Day Long Weekend
We here at UQ Sail like to take care of our crew-mates – so we’ve got you covered.
So all you need to do is enjoy yourself! (good crew mates help out once or twice with cooking and cleaning though).
You do need to organise a few essentials which will include things like; a tent, a sleeping bag, bowl/plate and cutlery… (actually I mean, you don’t have to, but believe us when we say you definitely should. Sleeping on the beach is not as fun as it sounds…). You’re also free to bring along any extra snacks or DRINKS… you think you might want ?
The ferry leaves at 8:15am, the address is: 14 Howard Smith Dr, Port Of Brisbane QLD 4178 Australia. If you need a lift, please select the option before checking out, we will be carpooling so space will be limited. If you need a lift, meet us at UQ pool at 7:30am. If you are meeting us at the Howard Smith Dr, arrive there at 8am. The ferry takes approximately 90 minutes to reach Moreton Island.
If you have not already done so in the past, you must complete a swim assessment before attending the event. You can do so for free at the UQ pool on any Tuesday or Thursday between 10am-12pm or on any Sunday between 1pm – 2pm. This is a compulsory requirement for all UQ water sports, and requires you to swim 400m (untimed) and tred water for 2 minutes supervised by a lifeguard. Please be aware, if you have not done the swim assessment, you are not allowed to sail. Once you have completed it, please provide your details here: https://www.uqsail.com/swim-assessment/
A confirmation email with further details will be sent out closer to the weekend. Please be patient when waiting for confirmation as spaces can sometimes be limited and weather conditions have to be taken into consideration. No experience is necessary we have experienced skippers who attend and are more than happy to show you the ropes.
Weather can rapidly change throughout the weekend, and the trip may need to be cut short if we cannot safely sail.
We are taking all precautions to ensure our event is COVID Safe. We are in constant communication with UQ Sport and taking all recommendations from QLD Health. If you have travelled from interstate, experienced COVID symptoms, or have been in contact with someone who has, please contact the exec and do not attend the event. Please read the UQ Sport Covid Statement available here:
As part of our COVID-Safe plan we ask that you:
